Former India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja has sparked debate on social media after linking two controversial dismissals involving Bangladesh, the run-out of Salman Ali Agha in Mirpur and the timed-out dismissal of Angelo Mathews during the 2023 World Cup.

Jadeja took to his X account to express his frustration following the incident involving Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz during the second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

“From Angelo Mathews’ timed-out wicket to Salman Ali Agha's controversial run-out, seems like trusting Bangladesh is a crime. While playing against Bangladesh, all teams need to be extra careful.” Jadeja wrote on his X account.

The remark came after Miraz ran out Agha in an unusual moment during Pakistan’s innings. In the 39th over, a straight drive from Mohammad Rizwan was stopped by Miraz near the pitch. Believing the ball was dead, Agha stepped out of his crease and bent down to hand the ball back.

Miraz, however, quickly picked it up and broke the stumps with Agha outside the crease, leading to a run-out decision after a third-umpire review.

The dismissal sparked debate among fans and analysts about whether the act was within the “spirit of cricket,” though it remained legal under the laws of the game.

Jadeja’s comment also referenced the controversial timed-out dismissal of Mathews during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, when Bangladesh appealed after the Sri Lankan batter failed to take strike within the allotted time due to a helmet strap issue.

That incident, the first timed-out dismissal in international cricket — occurred when then Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan upheld the appeal, leading to widespread discussion about the spirit of the game.
