The incident occurred in the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings when a straight drive from Mohammad Rizwan came back towards Miraz. The Bangladesh captain stopped the ball with his foot as it rolled towards Agha at the non-striker’s end.
Believing the ball was dead, Agha stepped out of his crease and attempted to pick it up to hand it back. Miraz quickly grabbed the ball and broke the stumps with an underarm throw, leaving Agha stranded outside the crease and run out for 64.
The dismissal sparked debate among fans about whether it was in the spirit of the game, while Agha showed his frustration by throwing his helmet and gloves as he walked back to the pavilion.
Explaining the decision, Miraz said after the match: “He was away from the wicket, and I was just looking for the ball. If you miss, he would go for the run. So I was just thinking like that.”
The wicket proved crucial as Miraz removed Rizwan later in the same over, triggering a collapse that saw Pakistan lose several quick wickets before finishing on 274.
In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 114 in 23.3 overs as Pakistan secured a 128-run win under the DLS method to level the series.
Agha later said his reaction was driven by emotions in the moment.
“I can tell you what happened after that. I’m sure everyone has seen it, but it was just a "heat of the moment" kind of thing. If you ask me what I would have done, I would have handled it differently. However, everything that happened afterward was the heat of the moment,” he said after the match.
While acknowledging the dismissal was within the rules, Agha questioned the sporting aspect of the decision.
“Well, it is in the laws. I am someone who always wants to follow the law, but when it comes to the sportsman spirit, I think that has to be held higher, no matter the situation. Regarding what he did within the law, if he thinks it is right, that it's his choice. But if you ask for my perspective, I would have acted differently; I would have gone for the spirit of sportsmanship,” he added.
The Pakistan batter also confirmed that tensions during the incident were momentary.
“I can't remember what I was saying, and I can't remember what he was saying. I'm sure I didn't say nice things, and I'm really sure he didn't say nice things either. But it was just the heat of the moment. We are fine.”
Agha was certain that things would be all right between him and Miraz. “I haven't yet [talked to Miraz], but we will. Don't worry, we are fine.”
