Sialkot Stallionz, the newest franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), have confirmed the signing of former Australia captain Steve Smith for the league’s 11th season, which will run from March 26 to May 3.

The franchise announced the high-profile acquisition on Tuesday through its official social media platforms, marking Smith as their first and most significant direct signing.

Under the PSL’s revised team-building model, each franchise is allowed one direct signing, a provision the Stallionz used to secure the experienced right-hander.

Smith brings vast T20 experience, having featured in major leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred, Indian Premier League (IPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Across domestic and franchise T20 cricket, the 35-year-old has played 272 matches, scoring 6,242 runs at a strike rate of 131.38, with 30 half-centuries and five centuries to his name.

He was most recently seen in BBL 15, where he represented the Sydney Sixers and enjoyed an outstanding campaign, scoring 299 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 167.97.

His performances included a century and two fifties, playing a key role in guiding the Sixers to the final.

Earlier this year, on January 29, Sialkot Stallionz also strengthened their support staff by appointing former Australia wicketkeeper-batter and captain Tim Paine as head coach.
