Speaking about the cancellation, Aminul said the reasons behind the decision need to be examined to ensure the country's biggest franchise cricket tournament does not face similar disruptions in the future.
“I think the BPL is an extremely popular tournament for Bangladesh. You are saying that the BCB president has presented some logical reasons before you. In my opinion, tournaments like this should be held every year,” Aminul said.
“So, there is a need to discuss why it has not happened. But we will certainly keep an eye on the areas that need attention to ensure tournaments like this are held regularly in the future.”
The minister also appeared surprised upon learning that the tournament would not take place, saying: “I have just heard it from you that they will not play.”
BCB president Tamim Iqbal had earlier confirmed that the BPL would not be held this year, while assuring that the board is working on major changes to domestic cricket to address the financial impact on players.
Tamim said the BCB was planning a significant new tournament and broader restructuring of domestic competitions, with details expected to be announced later this month.
The absence of the BPL is expected to deal a financial blow to many domestic cricketers, prompting discussions between the BCB and the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) over alternative long-term financial support.
