National team all-rounder Nasir Hossain said the players were satisfied with the board’s explanation for why the BPL will not be held, following a meeting between the two sides on Sunday.
“Why will the BPL not be held? We asked that question. The board explained it to us clearly. We are satisfied,” Nasir told reporters after the meeting.
The cancellation is expected to leave many players facing a significant financial setback, making compensation and alternative opportunities a key part of the discussions with the board.
“The BPL will most likely not be held this year. But if the BPL does not take place, the players will suffer financially, so we are discussing how the board can compensate for that loss,” he said.
The BCB has also discussed the possibility of introducing an alternative model for players in place of the BPL. While no final decision has been taken, Nasir said the players were encouraged by the proposal.
“The proposal made by the cricket board is for the benefit of the players. The focus is more on where we will be five to 10 years from now. I did not think the proposal was bad,” he added.
The discussions are expected to continue as the BCB works on a longer-term plan to provide players with competitive opportunities and financial stability in the absence of the BPL.
