Cricket South Africa Director Graeme Smith hinted towards AB de Villiers’ comeback in international cricket. The South African team will tour the West Indies in the next month, in which AB de Villiers can be seen playing.

The right-handed wicket-keeper batsman has been in superlative form for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“AB is different discussion as he is retired and whether he comes out of retirement is an ongoing discussion,” Smith told the media.

He also admitted that free-agents like Chris Morris and Imran Tahir, who do not have a national contract can also make a return because of their experience.

“In terms of free agents, they are always available. They play in T20 leagues around the world and are gaining more experience in the format than most. We have seen the success the West Indies have had with that policy, so it would be considered by selectors. However, many factors go into that like team dynamics and the players in the system,” Smith added.

Last month, Proteas head coach Mark Boucher revealed that he has had a conversation with De Villiers and looked quite optimistic about his return. When asked, the 37-year-old also gave a positive response as well while speaking in the post-match presentation of an IPL 2021 match.

The South African team is all set to tour the West Indies in June for a series of two Tests and five T20 matches.
