BCB plans to add new venue for upcoming BPL season

BPL to have new venue
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to expand its list of venues for the upcoming season, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) planning to introduce at least one additional host city.

Traditionally limited to a few locations, this marks the first formal step toward spreading the tournament across the country.

In the earlier editions of the BPL, matches were hosted only at two venues: the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Later, the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium was added to the rotation. Now, BCB aims to increase fan engagement by including a fourth venue.

Speaking to the media, BPL Chairman Mahbub Anam confirmed the board’s intention to add a new venue for the upcoming season. “We are progressing with plans to include at least one new venue in the next BPL,” he said.

According to Anam, four venues are currently in contention: Khulna, Bogura, Barishal, and Rajshahi. Among them, Khulna and Bogura have previously hosted international matches, and BCB has already dispatched teams to inspect the field and outfield conditions at those venues. Work is also ongoing at Rajshahi and Barishal to bring them up to standard.
“The venue that meets the highest standards will be selected as the new BPL venue,” added Anam.
This move aligns with the new BCB president’s broader vision of decentralizing cricket and increasing its reach across the country. If implemented, it could give fans in new regions the opportunity to witness live BPL action in their home cities for the first time.
