Cricket South Africa has announced to provide equal pay for both male and female cricketers and they would receive the same match fees for international matches.

South Africa became the third nation after New Zealand and India who earlier announced equal pay for both teams in international cricket.

Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki said the changes announced were an important stepping stone to build on the legacy provided from hosting the T20 World Cup earlier this year and will help further grow women's cricket in the country.

"We are thrilled to unveil the Professional Women's Cricket League, an initiative that celebrates the remarkable achievements of our national women's cricket team and paves the way for an even brighter future," Moseki said.

In recent years, the South African women’s cricket team have excelled and became the last four teams of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 which was held in New Zealand.

In the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the Proteas reached the final place after beating England in the semi-final, but unfortunately lost the final match against Australia by 19 runs. Suné Luus-led South Africa to the final spot for the first time
