New Zealand batter Devon Conway recorded his first home Test century on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh. The left-handed batter said it was a ‘special feeling’ for him since it happened at home.

Conway scored 122, making him only the sixth man to reach a century in his maiden innings of a home and away Test. His contribution anchored the side to reach 258 for 5.

Conway said it was special to score a century in his first home Test and being in partnership with New Zealand icon Ross Taylor when he reached triple figures.

"It is a very special feeling. I think today firstly playing in New Zealand in a Test match, it was very special to be out there. And then personally, it was a great feeling to have Ross Taylor there out in the middle with me when I achieved that milestone,”

“He was very positive. Told me to soak it in, and congratulated me. It will last in my memory for a very long time." said Conway.

Conway admitted that it was difficult to play Bangladesh seamers in the first hours as the pitch was assisting them. So, he opted to play defensive cricket with the aid of Will Young after the early dismissal of Tom Latham.

"I think the two of us decided that we needed to be as patient as possible. We identified that the Bangladeshi bowlers were bowling really well in that period. The surface was assisting them as well. We knew we could play the more attacking shots later in the day," he added.
