Bangladesh U-19 suffer back to back defeat against SL

Bangladesh U-19 suffered second successive defeat against Sri Lanka U-19 by one run in the second ODI at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Monday.

In pursuit of 229, Bangladesh managed to score 227 runs before getting all-out by Lankans.

Despite a good start, Bangladesh could not maintain the momentum as they were behind by one run at the end of the match. Sri Lanka kept the nerve until the final ball of the game which propelled them to clinch their second victory over the visitors.

The highest scorer Mahfijul Islam faced 96 balls to score 75, hitting eight fours and a six. While the skipper SM Meherob (33) and Iftikher Hossain (36) played brief innings to aid to the side.

Dunith Wellalage and Matheesha Pathirana scalped three wickets each for Sri Lanka U-19.

Earlier, the host made a shaky start as Ashikur Zaman strike early by removing opener Jeewaka Shashen (3). Then Sadeesh Jayawardene put on a 66-run stand with Shevon Daniel for the second wicket.

Following the wicket of Shevon (34), Sadeesh and Pawan Pathiraj’s fifties guided the side to set a mediocre total of 228 runs for 8.

Sadeesh played a knock of 58 off 94 while Pawan made 51 off 68 before getting dismissed.

For Bangladesh, Ripon Mondal bagged three wickets, Ashikur took a couple of wickets while Ariful Islam and SM Meherob got one wicket each.

Ariful was the most economical bowler as he bowled ten overs for 27 runs with an economy of 2.7.
