After the poor World Cup performance, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has terminated the contract of it head coach Steve Rhodes. Bangladesh won just three matches in this World Cup and finished eighth in the point table. Rhodes had a contract with BCB till the T20 World cup in Australia. BCB said that the decision has been made as a mutual understanding between the two parties.
In the midst of the World cup, there were some rumors that Rhodes lost his control in the dressing room. Some of the players and BCB officials anonymously said that “He is a good person but not a good coach,” and so, the possibility of sacking Rhodes is not a sudden call.

BCB appointed Rhodes as the head coach of Bangladesh on June 7, 2018. After the appointment, Bangladesh went on to tour West Indies. The start was horrendous, in that series, in a Test match, Bangladesh was all out for just 43 runs. Rhodes started his era with a Test series whitewash against the Caribbean. But Tigers turned the tide around in the ODI series.
In three-match ODI series, Bangladesh won the series 2-1. After that Bangladesh lost the T20 series 2-1. Bangladesh also performed well in the Asia Cup in UAE by making their way into the final. But Bangladesh failed to win their first title as they lost to India in final.
The greatest achievement for Bangladesh in the Rhodes era is the Tri-nation series win in Ireland beating West Indies in the final. After that Tri-series win, Bangladesh also started well in the World cup. They beat South Africa in their World cup opener. After that, they won against West Indies and Afghanistan. Bangladesh failed to make into the semis with just three wins in nine matches.
Bangladesh played eight Test matches under Rhodes. Among these Tests, Bangladesh won three Tests and lost five. This English man was most successful in the ODI’s.
Bangladesh played 30 ODI’s under Rhodes. Won 17 and lost 13. In T20, he is fifty percent successful. Played six matches, won three and lost three.
