Netherlands pacer Kyle Klein eyes BPL opportunity

Netherlands pacer Kyle Klein

Dutch fast bowler Kyle Klein has expressed his strong desire to feature in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The 24-year-old, who recently impressed against Bangladesh with three wickets in the third T20I, believes the franchise league would be a perfect stage to further test his skills.

“Of course, I want to play in the BPL. If I ever get the opportunity, I’ll definitely grab it. Until now, I haven’t received any offers, but I’d love to play in Bangladesh’s franchise league,” Klein told in an interview with Cricfrenzy.

Several of Klein’s Netherlands teammates, including Paul van Meekeren (Khulna Tigers) and Max O’Dowd (Chattogram Challengers), have already featured in the BPL. Klein now hopes to follow in their footsteps and make his mark in Bangladesh’s most popular T20 competition.

Klein’s journey to international cricket has been remarkable as he was raised in South Africa, and he switched to the Netherlands where his family roots lie.

A product of Cape Town’s renowned Rondebosch Boys’ High School; the same institution that produced legends like Gary Kirsten and Jonathan Trott, Klein played nearly 70 matches a year during his teenage years.

“Rondebosch played a huge role in my career. By the time I was 18, I was playing around 70 matches a year. That amount of cricket really helped me develop and prepared me for international cricket,” he said.

He also trained under Gary Kirsten during his school years. “It was amazing for me. I got to train with him and watch him closely. That was a great experience,” Klein recalled.

Since making his Netherlands debut, Klein has played 18 ODIs and 17 T20Is, claiming 63 wickets across formats. Known for his ability to hit the top of off stump consistently, he has developed a reputation as a reliable wicket-taker in the middle overs.

“It’s about bowling good areas. You’ve got to keep it at the top of the stumps, add some variation, and when someone tries to hit a boundary, that’s when you get the chance to take a wicket,” Klein explained.

With his mix of accuracy and wicket-taking ability, Klein could be an asset in the BPL if the franchises come calling.
