Former Bangladesh national team captain Akram Khan has confirmed earlier that he will not be contesting in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.

Akram Khan, a long-time figure in BCB’s leadership, has voluntarily withdrawn his candidacy, making way for his younger relative Tamim Iqbal, who is set to contest the upcoming election.
Conflict of interest keeps Tamim away from CWAB committee post
4 Sep 25Tamim, the recently retired Bangladesh opener and former captain, will be contesting the BCB elections for the first time.
“You all know that another member of my family is also taking part. I personally don’t like the idea of having two people from the same family on the cricket board. Tamim is younger than me, like a son to me. I’ve held him in my arms since he was little. That’s why I’m stepping aside. Having two family members there doesn’t really look good. Age is also a factor. Considering everything, I’ve decided not to contest the election,” Akram said to media on Monday.

“Whether it is Tamim or Bulbul who comes forward—one is my relative, the other is my colleague. What I truly want is for the betterment of Bangladesh cricket. And most importantly, it is about respect. What we are seeing now is that people are being disrespected for personal interests, and that is something unacceptable. Because our background is cricket. Apart from cricket, I have not come here as a businessman, nor as a politician. So, if there is any kind of disrespect toward cricket, that is not something I can tolerate” he added.

Meanwhile, ex-captains Khaled Mashud Pilot and Minhajul Abedin Nannu have shown interest in contesting from the third category instead.
However, as Nannu is already in the “captain quota,” it will not be easy for him to be a candidate in that category unless he secures a councilor position from another institution.
