Italy pulled off a surprise 12-run victory over Scotland in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Region Final on Wednesday in The Hague, significantly boosting their chances of qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

With this win, Italy now sits atop the points table with two wins and one no-result from three matches — two points clear of both Scotland and Jersey.
George Munsey: From aspiring golfer to a global cricketing star
4 Jan 25Batting first after winning the toss, Italy got off to a flying start thanks to opener Emilio Gay, who smashed a 50 off just 21 balls. He was supported by Harry Manenti’s 38 (38 balls) and a late flourish from Grant Stewart, who contributed a quick 44 from 27 deliveries, setting Scotland a target of 168.

In response, Scotland's George Munsey kept the chase alive with a steady 72 off 61 balls. However, Manenti turned the tide with the ball, grabbing a five-wicket haul to restrict Scotland to 155/5 in their 20 overs.
Led by former Australian Test opener Joe Burns, Italy will now face hosts Netherlands in their final group match on July 11. A win would confirm their qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup. If they lose, their fate will depend on Net Run Rate, with Scotland and Jersey set to face each other in the other crucial final match.
