It has now been confirmed that his withdrawal was due to an "adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug." Rabada did not specify which substance was involved or how long his suspension would last.
Despite the situation, Rabada remains in contention to feature in the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord's, scheduled for 11–15 June.

In a statement released by the South African Cricketers Association, Rabada expressed regret, saying, "I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down." He added, "I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations."
