The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Alex Marshall, former head of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), as a consultant to oversee the board’s anti-corruption operations for the next year.

The appointment was confirmed during BCB’s six-hour board meeting on Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, attended virtually by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul from Australia.

Marshall, a retired senior British police officer, previously served as Chief Executive of the UK’s College of Policing from 2013 to 2017 and as Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary from 2008 to 2013. In September 2017, he joined the ICC as General Manager of its ACU, where he led global anti-corruption efforts in cricket.
BCB Media and Communications Committee Chairman Ifthekhar Rahman Mithu said the move was aimed at boosting the board’s anti-corruption activities.

“To enhance our ACU activities, we are appointing Alex Marshall, who worked with the ICC. We think our ACU needs strengthening, which is why we are bringing him in,” he stated.
Mithu also confirmed that the ICC’s Integrity Unit will supervise the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). “They call it the ICC integrity unit. They will run the next BPL,” he added.
