Former New Zealand player Daniel Vettori was signed as a spin bowling coach in a 100-day contract with Bangladesh national team. He has been the spin coach of Bangladesh in the last tour of New Zealand. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to appoint a new spin coach.

BCB is holding talks with three coaches from the subcontinent. However, the guardian of Bangladesh cricket has not yet revealed who is interested in becoming the spin bowling coach of Bangladesh. BCB's cricket operations manager Akram Khan said the decision would be taken in consultation with senior cricketers and coaching staff.

Former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath is leading the race to be the next Bangladesh national team spin bowling coach, while the board is also in discussion with former Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons for the role of batting coach.

“Three of the spin coaches will come from Asia, one from Sri Lanka, one from India and another is from Pakistan. We are trying to talk and maybe we will reach them in a few days. In that case we will take the advice of senior cricketers in two or three days. We will take their opinion. We have coaching staff, we have head coaches, will have a meeting with them,” said Akram to media on Monday.

Moreover, Bangladesh had appointed John Lewis as the batting coach for the tour of West Indies and New Zealand at home. He also coached the Tigers in the recently concluded Sri Lanka series. However, the BCB will also consider extending the contract with him. If Lewis doesn’t keep the job, the BCB has several names as his alternative. Akram said they would discuss with them.

“With this, our batting coach John Lewis is still there. Many are showing interest in him and many are not. First we will decide whether we will keep him or not. If we don't, we have two or three shortlisted. There is one of them who has worked with Bangladesh before. It seems like it will take another three or four days and we’ll take the final call,” he added.
