Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim compared his topsy-turvy auction journey with an intense cricket match.

The bat of Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim found an unlikely buyer in Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi, who agreed to buy the memorabilia for his foundation at $20,000 ( Tk 17 lakh approximately), said an official on Friday.

Mushfiq put the bat, with which he scored Bangladesh’s first Test double hundred in 2013 against Sri Lanka, in auction earlier this week, but the process had to be suspended due to some fake bidding.

The auction was jointly operated by his management partner NIBCO, Sports for Life and Pickaboo.com.

‘’I want to compare it[ auction] with a match because when you went to play a cricket match not everything goes easily. We see the collapse of three-four wickets sometimes and bowlers get into top at that time, wicket condition becomes difficult. When you survive that situation and play a good inning and end of the day your team wins so this incident is similar to those matches. Lastly, we are able to finish it which is good news for us,’’ said Mushfiqur while announcing the name of Afridi .

‘’At first, I want to thanks those who participated in this auction. We found some honest bidders in these five days, so, I want to thank them a lot. And I want to announce the name who bought my bat. I think those who watch cricket worldwide know his name he is Pakistan's former skipper Shahid Khan Afridi and he bought my bat through his foundation. I'm really privileged and honored that a person like him participated in our noble cause and special thanks to his foundation as well,’’ he said.

‘’We got some honest bidders like Nisho Rahman, Abu Baker and also had bidders from Poland, which is a great thing. And in the first three-four days, we had to stop the bidding because of some fraud bidders. We didn't expect such a thing in this whole journey. Where we took an initiative to help people, but some people will take it as fun we really didn't hope for it. We just want to express our hatred towards them. By doing this kind of work you just shortened my name but I'm just an insignificant person, but worldwide everyone knows this news, watching this news. So I think the reputation of Bangladesh got tarnished because of you guys. So, I want to request them not only me whenever someone tries to come up with some such initiatives if you don’t participate then at least don't try to disrupt it and try to support others,’’ he said.

‘’In this case, I would also like to thank my friend Tamim. Afridi has a very good relationship with him. They played in the same team in PSL, he also played with me in BPL, that's he has a good relationship with us,’’ he said.

‘’I want to thank Morin Bhai and Borshon Bhai and to BRAC to be beside us in our this kind of noble cause. And thanks to those who supported this initiative tirelessly. And want to give the big thanks to Shahid Afridi Bhai and his foundation who bought my this bat,’’ he concluded.
