Waseem: I have no words, I'm very happy we beat Bangladesh

The UAE players celebrate a first ever T20I win over Bangladesh

“I have no words. I am very happy we beat Bangladesh. Very happy with the performance. I was giving hope to everyone that we can chase this score because we know the conditions here. We were hoping to chase it and I tried to play my natural game… We had belief. Dhruv hit one six, Haider also hit one six and thankfully, we won. We will go with our strength in the third game and hopefully we can make it 2-1.”

UAE’s chase began with aggressive intent as Waseem and Muhammad Zohaib punished the Bangladesh bowlers from the outset. The Tigers' bowling unit, especially the pace attack, struggled to contain the run flow on a dew-affected outfield and a batting-friendly surface.

Bangladesh posted 205/5 thanks to half-centuries from Tanzid Hasan Tamim (59 off 33) and contributions from Litton Das (40), Najmul Hossain Shanto (27), and Towhid Hridoy (45). It was their fourth-highest T20I total, but not enough on the night.

Muhammad Waseem and Litton Das pose with the T20I series trophy

After the match, Bangladesh captain Litton Das acknowledged the team’s shortcomings. “Any loss is hard, but we still batted well on this wicket. Wicket was pretty good, when they batted, they had the favour of dew. We missed a bit in the fielding and in the middle-overs bowling… When you play on this type of ground, which is small and with dew a factor, you have to calculate and plan. What Rana did before (his final over), we were expecting more from him. You can have good days and bad days. We will sit and talk and come back.”

With the series now poised at 1-1, the decider will be played on May 21, promising another exciting clash between the two sides.
