Devon Conway recalled to NZ T20I squad after Finn Allen injury

Devon Conway
Just a week after being omitted from New Zealand’s T20I squad for the tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa, Devon Conway has been called back into the team to replace the injured Finn Allen. Allen suffered a foot injury while playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025.

Although Conway hasn’t featured in a T20I for over a year, he has remained active in the global T20 circuit. His most recent outing was with the Texas Super Kings in the MLC, where he scored 135 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 127.35.

“We’re really disappointed for Finn. I was excited to see how he’d continue his MLC form, but injuries are part of the game. Fortunately, we have someone of Devon’s calibre to step in.” said New Zealand head coach Rob Walter.
Additional squad members Mitchell Hay, Tim Robinson, and Jimmy Neesham have been brought in as cover for Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra—all of whom are expected to play in the MLC final on Sunday.
“We anticipated that some of our players might be involved in the final, so Mitch, Jimmy, and Tim are on standby as potential replacements,” Walter added.

Mitchell Santner will captain the side as Walter begins his tenure as head coach. The coaching support includes Luke Ronchi, Jacob Oram, and James Foster. Key players like Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson, and Ben Sears are missing the tour for various reasons.
Williamson is playing county cricket for Middlesex, Ferguson has been rested for workload management, Jamieson is awaiting the birth of his child, and Sears is sidelined with a side strain.
New Zealand will start their tri-series campaign against South Africa on Wednesday. The series will follow a double round-robin format, with the top two teams meeting in the final on July 26. All games will be hosted at Harare Sports Club.
