Bangladesh roar back to level series

Bangladesh celebrate a wicket, Cricfrenzy
After a defeat in the opening T20I, Bangladesh stormed back into the series with a dominant all-round performance, bowling Sri Lanka out for just 94 to claim a massive 83-run win in the second match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday. With this emphatic victory, the three-match series now stands level at 1-1.

With the series on the line, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 177 for 6, thanks to a composed captain’s knock from Litton Das and a late surge by Shamim Hossain Patwari.

Sent in to bat after losing the toss, Bangladesh got off to a rocky start, losing both openers—Parvez Hossain Emon (0) and Tanzid Hasan Tamim (5)—with only 7 runs on the board. However, Litton and Towhid Hridoy rebuilt the innings with a solid 69-run stand for the third wicket.
Hridoy contributed a quick 31 off 25 balls, featuring two fours and a six, before being dismissed.
Litton, under pressure due to a long run of poor form, bounced back brilliantly with his first T20I half-century in 18 matches—his last coming in June 2024 against Afghanistan.
The Bangladesh captain scored 76 off 50 deliveries, laced with five sixes and one four, anchoring the innings expertly.

Shamim added the late fireworks, smashing 48 off 27 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes, before being run out. Their contributions helped Bangladesh post a challenging total of 177.

In reply, Sri Lanka crumbled under pressure. Their innings got off to a shaky start when Kusal Mendis was run out for 8 with the team score at 19.
What followed was a complete batting collapse, as they lost four wickets for just 30 runs. Kusal Perera (0), Avishka Fernando (2), and Charith Asalanka (5) all departed cheaply, with Shoriful Islam striking twice to put Bangladesh in control.
While Pathum Nissanka offered brief resistance with a steady 32 off 29 balls, including two fours and a six, he was dismissed by Rishad Hossain, effectively ending Sri Lanka’s hopes.
When Dasun Shanaka fell for 20, Bangladesh were well on their way to a massive win. The visitors bowled with great discipline and didn’t allow Sri Lanka to even reach three figures, bowling them out for 94.
Rishad was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 18 in 3.2 overs. Shoriful also impressed, finishing with 2 for 12 from 3 overs. Mohammad Saifuddin took 2 for 21, while Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with one wicket each.
Bangladesh’s emphatic 83-run win has set the stage for a thrilling series decider, which will be played on July 16.
