Brook pulled out of the tournament citing personal reasons, which may lead to a potential two-season ban under the IPL's updated rules. Atal steps in at his base price of INR 1.25 crore, as officially confirmed by the BCCI.
Atal, 23, has never played in the IPL before but brings T20 experience, having played 49 matches with a strike rate of 131.
He was part of the SA20 league as well, representing MI Cape Town in three matches. Notably, he scored 74 off 46 balls as an opener against Pretoria Capitals in one of those games.
Internationally, Atal has represented Afghanistan in nine T20 Internationals, nine One-Day Internationals, and one Test match.
He joins Delhi at a crucial point in their campaign — they started strong with four straight wins but have since dropped to fifth place. Despite the slump, the team remains in contention for a playoff berth.
