BCB set to introduce Rajshahi Premier League

Aminul Islam Bulbul speaks with media today

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul has announced plans to launch a Premier League in the Rajshahi region, as part of a broader initiative to decentralize cricket across Bangladesh. The move aims to foster regional talent and expand the country’s cricketing infrastructure beyond its traditional Dhaka-centric base.

Speaking during a week-long nationwide festival organized by the BCB to celebrate 25 years of Bangladesh’s Test status, Bulbul emphasized his commitment to taking cricket to all corners of the country.

The day’s festivities took place at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium, where the BCB President inaugurated an Under-12 six-a-side cricket tournament at 10 AM.

“We want to take Test cricket forward. Just like we saw great enthusiasm in Khulna yesterday, the same energy is here in Rajshahi today. The people of Bangladesh love Test cricket. This celebration is not just about the past—it's also preparation for the future.” said Bulbul while addressing reporters.

A strong advocate for regional development, the former national captain outlined his vision for a more inclusive cricketing landscape. “Our goal is to ensure cricket does not remain Dhaka-centric. We want regions like Rajshahi to produce more players, which is why we’re planning to introduce a Premier League here,” he said.

Praising the facilities at the Rajshahi Stadium, Bulbul added, “The ground and outfield here are of excellent quality—better than in many other countries. If we can continue to develop the infrastructure and arrange regular matches, Rajshahi can become a key contributor to the national team pipeline.”

Also present was BCB Grounds Committee Chairman Mahbub Anam. Bulbul highlighted that improving field conditions across the country is a top priority for the board. “If we can develop similar facilities nationwide, it will significantly strengthen the overall cricketing structure of Bangladesh,” he stated.

The silver jubilee celebrations began yesterday at the Khulna Divisional Stadium. Today, Rajshahi hosted a series of cricket-related activities, with Sylhet and Chattogram scheduled to follow in the coming days as part of the nationwide initiative.
