Bangladesh batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy rued over missing out on a century against New Zealand during the first Test.

Joy played an impressive innings of 86 runs off 166 balls to add 53 runs with skipper Shanto and 88 runs with Mominul Haque which helped Bangladesh post 310-9 at stumps.

“I had a chance to play a big innings, however, I missed it. Opportunities like this don't come every day. I missed it today. Everyone got off to a good start but couldn't build up. This is our regret,” said Joy.

“There are 300 runs on the board. We are in a good position now. As an opener, we don’t get a chance like this every day. I missed both opportunities. InshAllah I will try to do better in the future,”

Bangladesh aimed to reach 380 or 350 runs, but New Zealand spinners prevented it. Bangladesh managed to cross 300.

“Our target was 350 or 380 runs. We will try to stop them with quality spinners. If the spinners can bowl in good places, inshallah it is possible to get them out easily,” he added.
