BCB announces 16-man Test squad for SL series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday announced a 16-member squad for the first Test of two-match series against Sri Lanka next month.

The Sri Lanka cricket team will arrive in Bangladesh on 8 May for a two-match series which is a part of the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship.

Mominul Haque will lead the Test side and will look forward to turnover from South Africa's defeat 2-0 using the home conditions.

Shakib Al Hasan, who had missed the Tests against South Africa in March due to personal reasons, has returned to Bangladesh's side. Shakib last played in whites against Pakistan at home before skipping the Tests against New Zealand and South Africa.

There was no place for Shadman Islam and Abu Jayed in the squad.

Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out of the series owing to a shoulder injury. Shoriful Islam might be available for selection after recovering from the injury which he incurred during the South Africa series.

The first match will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram on 15 May while the second Test commences at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Dhaka on 23 May.
