Mohammad Naim’s cameo innings of 39 steered Abahani Limited to register a 5-wicket victory (D/L Method) against Legends of Rupganj in Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Abahani chased down the fighting total 163 runs losing 5 wickets in the allotted 18 overs. Openers, Najmul Hossain Shanto (29) and Munim Shahriar started the innings well, putting 35 runs partnership.
Then Afif played a knock of 21 runs off 12 balls hitting four boundaries, Mushfiq scored 20 and Mossadek Hossain faced 11 balls to score 15 runs.
Swashbuckling Naim played a cameo inning of 39 runs off 19 balls, struck two fours and two sixes with Mohammad Saifuddin (14), they remained unbeaten to take the team to the port of victory.
For Rupganj, Mohammad Saifuddin grabbed two wickets, and Nabil Samad, Muktar Ali took one wicket each.
Earlier, winning the toss Rupganj batted first, scored 162 runs losing 5 wickets in 18 overs. Jaker Ali got off to a good start with Sabbir Rahman, putting a 69-run stand for the second wicket.
Sabbir departed scoring 35 runs in 27 balls with two fours and two sixes. Then Jaker completed his half-century with Al-Amin (26), he scored 52 off 42 balls aided by three fours and two sixes.
Naeem Islam (16) and Muktar Ali (14) remained unbeaten on the pitch after the game was called off due to rain. Mehedi Hasan Rana took three wickets while Mohammad Saifuddin picked up two for Abahani.
Abahani: 164/5 ( Naim 39*, Saifuddin 14*, Shahid 2/40) beat Rupganj 162/5 (Jaker 52, Sabbir 35, Rana 3/37, Saifuddin 2/36) by five wickets.
