Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan said on Saturday that he doesn’t play for records as he completed a record filled World Cup despite Bangladesh failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Shakib is the only cricketer with 1000 runs and 30+ wickets in the World Cup. Alongside this, Shakib is the only cricketer with 600 runs and 10 wickets in a single World Cup edition. He has also crafted his name beside Sachin Tendulkar in the record of most 50+ runs in a single World Cup.
But Shakib said he doesn’t think about records. He was in phenomenal form in both bat and ball but was unable to make the semifinal. Shakib doesn’t have any regret about that. But he believes, Bangladesh had the opportunity to make the semifinal.

“ I don’t think about records in that way. Of course, we had the chance to go through to the semifinal. But I don’t even think about those. I am not a person who thinks about those,” said Shakib.
Shakib played eight matches in this World Cup and scored 50+ runs in seven of them. The ace all-rounder of Bangladesh said, in last matches he was tired but as his fitness is at its top-notch, that’s why it didn’t trouble him.
The last two matches were challenging for Shakib. He overawed those challenges and scored 66 against India and 64 against Pakistan in his last two innings. He finished the World Cup with 606 runs and 11 wickets beside his name.
“ In the last two matches, I felt tired mentally. Nevertheless, my fitness level was good that’s why it helped me. Maybe, If I worked over my fitness in one or two days in between, I would have been better. But it also could have exhausted me. it was tough to balance between these two. But the last two matches were challenging,” said Shakib.
