Asalanka to lead revamped Sri Lanka squad for Bangladesh T20I series

Charith Asalanka to lead Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka have announced a 17-member squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, starting on July 10.

The series marks an important build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which Sri Lanka and India will co-host.

Charith Asalanka has been appointed captain of the side, which features several changes from the squad that faced New Zealand earlier this year in January, a series Sri Lanka lost 2-1.
Notably, all-rounder Dasun Shanaka returns to the national setup after a year-long absence, last featuring in July 2024 against India. Chamika Karunaratne also makes a comeback, having last played a T20I in April 2023.

Young left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage has been retained as part of the squad, adding depth to the spin department. Although he has only four T20Is to his name, the 22-year-old will be eager to cement his place.

The squad also sees a new face in pacer Eshan Malinga, who earns his first T20I call-up following strong performances in franchise leagues like the IPL and SA20. He made his ODI debut earlier this year and will now look to make his mark in the shortest format.
