Shakib set to face Rangpur Riders
The second edition of the Global Super League (GSL) kicks off today, and with reigning champions Rangpur Riders representing Bangladesh, fan interest is naturally high.

This season, however, the excitement is expected to rise even further as Bangladesh's premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan joins the fray.

2 hrs agoShakib will feature in the GSL for the first time, representing Dubai Capitals, who are also the defending champions of the International League T20 (ILT20) held in the UAE. The left-arm spinner was called up to the squad as a replacement for injured South African spinner Keshav Maharaj.

Dubai Capitals are scheduled to play their opening match tonight against Central Districts, a team from New Zealand’s Super Smash league. If selected, it will mark Shakib’s GSL debut.

Shakib last played in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Rangpur Riders, who are also competing in this tournament. Interestingly, he will now face his former team in this multinational competition.

Apart from Rangpur Riders, Dubai Capitals, and Central Districts, the five-team tournament also features Hobart Hurricanes, champions of Australia’s Big Bash League, and Guyana Amazon Warriors from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The tournament will conclude on July 18 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Before this, Shakib was last seen on the field in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he played three matches for Lahore Qalandars. While he didn’t feature in the final XI, his team went on to win the championship.
