Litton: Wicket was good, but we failed with the bat

After sealing a maiden T20I series victory against Pakistan, Bangladesh had the rare opportunity to complete a clean sweep—something they had previously achieved only against West Indies and England. But Litton Das's side fell short of sealing a ‘Banglawash’, putting up a disappointing batting display in the third and final T20I in Mirpur on Thursday.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh elected to field first, but failed to capitalize on the early advantage. Pakistan's openers Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub launched an onslaught, stitching an 82-run stand.

Later, Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz played impactful cameos to help Pakistan reach a commanding total of 178 for 7—a challenging target on Mirpur’s typically slow pitch.

In contrast, Bangladesh's batting collapsed under pressure. The top order fell cheaply, and despite Saifuddin's unbeaten 35, the hosts were bowled out for just 104 in 16.4 overs, falling short by 74 runs. Only one other batter, opener Mohammad Naim, reached double figures with a sluggish 10 off 17 balls, even getting dismissed on a free-hit delivery.

Bangladesh made five changes from the playing XI that won the second T20I, resting Parvez Hossain Emon, Towhid Hridoy, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman, and Rishad Hossain, bringing in Nasum Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Tanzid Hasan Tamim. But the heavy rotation seemed to disrupt their momentum.

Speaking after the loss, captain Litton Das admitted the team had underperformed with the bat.

“It’s very disappointing. Overall, the boys played good cricket. The wicket looked very good for batting, but unfortunately, we couldn't bat well,” Litton said

Still, Litton emphasized the positives of winning the series against a top-tier side like Pakistan: “We had planned to give opportunities to players who didn’t get a chance in the first two matches. As a series, this is a positive outcome for us. I believe we are on the right track.”
