Litton Das, the current captain of Bangladesh’s T20I side, etched his name in history on Saturday by surpassing Shakib Al Hasan to become the country’s leading run-scorer in the format.

Shakib previously held the record with 2,551 runs, but Litton overtook him during the Asia Cup Super Four clash against Sri Lanka in Dubai.

Needing 19 runs to set the new milestone, Litton reached the mark with a 23-run knock off 16 balls while batting at No. 3 in Bangladesh’s 169-run chase.

Shakib amassed his tally over an 18-year T20I career across 129 matches, while the Dubai encounter marked Litton’s 114th appearance for Bangladesh.

The wicketkeeper-batter has registered 15 T20I fifties so far and also holds the national record for the most sixes in the format.
