Mirpur’s pitch still a concern for batters, admits Litton

Mirpur’s slow and turning tracks have helped Bangladesh clinch historic T20I series wins over top sides like Australia and New Zealand. But for batters, it has often been a nightmare.

Ahead of the T20I series against Pakistan, Bangladesh captain Litton Das reflected on the challenges of playing in Mirpur, echoing earlier comments made by Shakib Al Hasan, who once warned that consistent matches here could end batters’ careers.

In a pre-series press conference, Litton stated: "I agree that many players' careers went down as batters because of this surface. If I were a bowler, maybe my career would have improved playing here. The team has improved, we’ve won series here — that’s a big plus. But at the same time, it’s been tough for batters."
However, Litton stopped short of calling Mirpur a “graveyard” for batters. Responding to another question, he clarified that the issues were mainly in a couple of specific series. He also disagreed with the idea that batters cannot score against spin on this pitch.

"It’s not like batters always struggle here. Let me be clear — those difficulties were in just two series. Yes, it’s challenging. The spinners get turn, but it’s not that runs don’t come at all. It’s a sporting wicket. It offers help to pacers too," Litton added.

"It’s balanced for both teams — not just us. Pakistan have good pacers, quality spinners, and solid batters. We have to play good cricket — that’s our target."
As Bangladesh prepare to take on a sharp Pakistan attack, Litton's comments underline the importance of adaptability and focus, especially on a pitch known to test even the best.
