Taskin expects to return with Sri Lanka series

Taskin Ahmed meets media on Thursday, Cricfrenzy
Taskin Ahmed, despite signing with Mohammedan Sporting Club, could not feature in all matches of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) due to a recurring ankle injury. The right-arm pacer was left out of Bangladesh's squads for both the UAE and Pakistan tours. While continuing his rehab at Mirpur, Taskin remains uncertain about a return date but is hopeful of making a comeback during Bangladesh’s full tour of Sri Lanka in June.

However, the discomfort worsened during the DPL, prompting a visit to England to consult an ankle specialist. Fortunately, surgery was ruled out, and he is now undergoing a conservative rehabilitation program.

“I’m currently in rehab. Our national team trainer, physio, and the specialist I saw in England designed a program together. Today was my fifth session, and I’ve started bowling off a short run.” Taskin said to the media on Thursday.

Asked about a return, he said, “It’s hard to say exactly when I’ll be back, but our goal is to return by the upcoming series in early June, Inshallah, if everything goes smoothly. I’m happy with how things are going, Alhamdulillah, and there haven’t been any setbacks so far.”

“With injuries, it’s tough to set a specific date. Sometimes rehab timelines shift. But if all goes according to the plan, I hope to play in the Sri Lanka series. If something unexpected happens, the management will decide the next steps. Hopefully, that won’t be necessary, especially since the good news from England was that surgery isn't required and rehab should be enough for recovery” he added.

Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka from June 13 for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
