Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has been appointed the permanent captain of Bangladesh’s T20I side and will serve in the role until the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. Having led the team in interim roles on multiple occasions in the past, Litton now begins a new chapter in leadership with the upcoming T20I series against the UAE later this month.

“Litton is a very good tactician,” Salahuddin said at a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.

“He has a solid grasp of field placements, bowler strengths, and opposition analysis. He understands how to set up a field in T20s, how to pace the game, and how to bat in different situations. His awareness of pitch conditions and overall game situations is quite impressive—that’s his strength.”

Litton had recently led Bangladesh in a T20I series against the West Indies as stand-in captain, where he impressed with his captaincy but failed to contribute with the bat. Salahuddin acknowledged this as a current weakness but believes it’s a temporary phase.

“His recent lack of runs can be seen as a weakness, but I believe he will overcome it,” he said.

The coach also addressed perceptions about Litton’s quiet demeanor, suggesting that it often leads to misconceptions about his leadership qualities.

“People often misjudge him because he speaks less, similar to how Shakib was once misunderstood,” Salahuddin remarked. “But those who work closely with him know that he does everything required of a leader—sometimes even more.”

Recognizing the immense pressure that comes with leading the national team, Salahuddin called for collective support for Litton from fans, media, and stakeholders.

“Captaining the Bangladesh national team is not an easy job. It might seem simple from the outside, but it's a huge responsibility. The captain must be given freedom and support. He’s the one running the team on the field—not us, not the board. It's our moral duty to back him.”

“If anyone thinks captaining the national team is easy, they are living in a fantasy. Litton is trying to find his way forward, and with support, he will succeed” he concluded.
