'So close yet too far' as Bangladesh lose a thriller

West Indies registered their first win in the T20 World Cup Super 12s, beating Bangladesh by 3 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Forty-four from Liton Das gone in vain as Bangladesh lost another last-over thriller, when they needed 13 but had to stay behind by 3 runs. In pursuit of 143 runs, the Tigers managed to put 139 on the board for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan, who came to open for the first time in his career, with Mohammad Naim, though they failed to put a big partnership. As Shakib returned on nine with a catch to Jason Holder off Andre Russell and Naim played a knock of 17 off 19 deliveries before getting bowled by Holder.
Then, Liton Das and Soumya added 31 runs for the third wicket partnership. However, Soumya was removed by spinner Akeal Hossain caught by Chris Gyle.
After the departure of Mushfiqur Rahim on 8, skipper Mahmudullah Riyad and Liton amassed a 40 run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Liton scored 44 off 43 aided by four boundaries while Mahmudullah played a knock of 31 off 24 balls.
For West Indies, all the bowlers took one wicket each while Jason Holder returned the most economical figures of one wicket leaking 22 runs in 4 overs.
Nicholas Pooran's 40 and cameo innings of Jason Holder steered West Indies to post 142 for the loss of 7 wickets after being invited to bat first.
Bangladesh bowlers Mustafizur Rahman clicked early by removing opener Evin Lewis for six runs. Followed by Mahedi Hasan, who bowled Chris Gayle through an inside edge off Gayle's big swing.
Mahedi then returned Shimron Hetmyer on nine with a catch to Soumya Sarkar at the long-off. West Indies were in trouble being reduced to 33-3 after the first powerplay.
Windies suffered a double blow in the 13th over as captain Kieron Pollard got out of the field with retired hurt and Andre Russell was run out at the non-striker's end without facing a ball, with Chase knocking the ball back punchily but Taskin boot to it.
Shoriful made the breakthrough by dismissing Nicholas Pooran, who smashed 40 off 22 to put on 57 runs with Roston Chase for the fifth wicket stand.
Chase, who was dropped on 10 by Mahedi extended his innings to 39 before getting caught off Shoriful.
While former captain Holder hit two sixes in the last over and added a five-ball 15 on his return to the team.
