11 Bangladeshis enter BBL draft, Hobart Hurricanes eye Rishad retention

BBL draft
The draft for the upcoming season of Australia’s premier domestic T20 competition, the Big Bash League (BBL), is set for June 19—and ten Bangladeshi cricketers have thrown their names into the mix.

Among them, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain may be retained by his former franchise, the Hobart Hurricanes.

Though Rishad was picked by the Hurricanes last season, he was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) declined to issue him a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Despite his absence, the Hurricanes went on to win the title. This year, the franchise has shown interest in retaining him, but his participation once again depends on BCB clearance, as the upcoming BPL may clash with the BBL schedule.

The other Bangladeshi players registered in the draft include Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shamim Hossain Patwary, Towhid Hridoy, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Soumya Sarkar.

Meanwhile, reports suggest veteran English pacer James Anderson is also in the spotlight. If selected and he takes the field, the 42-year-old would become the second-oldest player to feature in the BBL, behind Brad Hogg, who played at age 46.
