Bangladesh U-19 cricketers began their training ahead of the series against Afghanistan U-19 in Sylhet for one four-day and five ODI matches.

The camp was supposed to start on August 16, but Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had pushed it to Friday to reduce the bubble stress of cricketers.

Bangladesh Under-19 coach Naveed Nawaz was delighted and remained hopeful to be able to start their training, despite many disputes.

"We started the camp in Sylhet two days ago. Things are going well and everyone is very keen because we had a lot of stops and starts due to the Covid situation. But we are very positive that we can train these boys and prepare them for the World Cup," said Naveed in a video message.

Nawaz also said that throughout the Afghanistan series, he will analyze players and make necessary alterations to the team.

"Hopefully we will play Afghanistan in September and the boys will get some match experience. We also can gauge how the team will perform, make accommodations moving forward and prepare well for the World Cup," Naveed added.

Afghanistan U-19 team will arrive in Dhaka on August 29 and have to stay in quarantine before they start their training in Sylhet.

This would be the Under-19 side's first assignment against Afghanistan. Following the series, the Pakistan U-19 team are expected to visit Bangladesh.
