Taijul jumps but Mushfiq, Shanto slip in ICC Test Rankings

Taijul Islam gets his 17th five-wicket haul in Test cricket across 55 matches
Despite Bangladesh’s innings defeat to Sri Lanka in the Colombo Test, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam emerged as a standout performer with the ball — and his efforts have been reflected in the latest ICC Test rankings.

In the weekly update published by the ICC on Wednesday, Taijul moved up two spots to 16th in the Test bowlers’ rankings. Although just below his career-best of 15th — which he achieved in 2023 — the 33-year-old remains Bangladesh’s top-ranked Test bowler.

Taijul picked up 5 wickets for 131 runs in Sri Lanka’s only innings in Colombo, marking his 17th five-wicket haul in Test cricket across 55 matches.
In contrast, senior batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto have dropped in the ICC Test batting rankings after underwhelming performances in Colombo.

Mushfiq scored 35 and 26 in his two innings and has slipped one place to 29th. Shanto, who managed just 8 and 19, has dropped five places to 34th, despite having climbed 21 spots in the previous update following twin centuries in the Galle Test.

On the Sri Lankan side, Pathum Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal have both made notable gains. Nissanka, who scored a commanding 158, jumped 14 spots to 17th in the Test batting rankings. Chandimal’s 93-run innings also helped him move up two places to 13th.
