Sathira Jakir Jessy set to create another milestone as umpire

Bangladesh women’s cricket has seen many firsts through Sathira Jakir Jessy, and now the former all-rounder is on the verge of another historic achievement. She is set to become the first female umpire from Bangladesh to officiate in men’s matches.

Jessy has been included in the umpires’ panel for the Bangladesh-Netherlands T20I series in Sylhet. She will work alongside experienced officials such as Masudur Rahman Mukul and Tanvir Ahmed.

9 hrs agoAlthough she won’t serve as an on-field umpire, Jessy will take charge as the fourth umpire in the first and third T20Is, while officiating as the third (TV) umpire in the second match.
Even without being on the field, this marks a significant step forward for Jessy and for the broader progress of women’s cricket in Bangladesh.

One of the pioneers of women’s cricket in the country, Jessy’s international career was brief—featuring in two ODIs and one T20I.
She also represented Bangladesh in various other tournaments. While still active in domestic cricket, she pursued coaching courses and transitioned into coaching.
