Pakistan’s pace spearhead Haris Rauf has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season due to a Grade 1 hamstring injury, casting serious doubt over his participation in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh.

Rauf sustained the injury during San Francisco Unicorns’ recent clash against the Texas Super Kings. The franchise confirmed the setback on social media, adding that New Zealand fast bowler Ben Lister will replace him for the rest of the MLC campaign.

"We're with you, Haris. The San Francisco Unicorns can confirm Haris Rauf will miss the remainder of #MLC2025 with a hamstring injury, with New Zealand pace bowler Ben Lister to replace him, effective immediately," the franchise team tweeted.

This comes as a blow not only to the Unicorns—Rauf currently leads the tournament’s wicket charts with 17 wickets from eight games—but also to Pakistan, who are set to arrive in Dhaka on July 16 for a three-match T20I series starting July 20.

With matches scheduled at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on July 20, 22, and 24, Pakistan may be forced to alter their pace attack for the Bangladesh tour.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet released an official update on Rauf’s recovery timeline, but early signs suggest the 31-year-old could miss the entire series.

Meanwhile, vice-captain Shadab Khan is unlikely to be available for the series due to a lingering shoulder injury. The leg-spinning all-rounder has been experiencing persistent pain in his right shoulder, and medical experts have recommended surgery. The procedure is expected to take place in the United Kingdom and would rule him out of action for approximately three months.

Adding to Pakistan’s injury woes, pacers Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim Jr. are also nursing fitness concerns and remain doubtful for the tour.

Meanwhile, senior players Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi—who were dropped for the previous home series against Bangladesh—are reportedly still not in the immediate selection plans of the team management.

Following the Bangladesh leg, Pakistan are scheduled to tour the West Indies in August for a six-match white-ball series.
