Top-order fail as Bangladesh stumble on Day 1 of Colombo Test

Sri Lankans celebrate Litton Das's wicket, Cricfrenzy
There was a stark contrast between the opening day of the drawn Galle Test and the first day of the second Test in Colombo. While Bangladesh had recovered well after early setbacks in Galle thanks to a steady partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim, it was a very different story in Colombo.

Despite rain interruptions limiting play to 71 overs, Bangladesh lost 8 wickets for just 220 runs, well below Colombo’s average first-innings score of 325.

Once again, poor shot selection and soft dismissals proved costly.
A disappointing similarity between the two matches was Anamul Haque Bijoy’s repeated failure. For the second consecutive Test, he was dismissed without scoring in the first innings.
At the tea break, Bangladesh had reached 144 for 5, but the final session saw them lose three more wickets.

Debutant left-arm spinner Sonal Dinusha made an immediate impact by removing Litton Das before the break, and later dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim, who attempted a slog sweep but was caught at mid-wicket after scoring 35 off 75 balls. Mushfiqur had scored a century in the previous Test.
