India's young spinner Kuldeep Yadav has once again returned to the squad after a long time and revealed that he was under pressure for not playing a single Test match in the last two years. The talented spinner has last featured for India way back in January 2019 and since then he failed to make it to the cut.
"It was important to stay along with the team when it's playing well. My job was to keep control, contain runs from one end, and chip in as one of the three spinners on this track. We have been planning for this series for a long time, right from the Australia series. There was some pressure, having not played a lot of Tests in the last two years. Was discussing a lot with Ashwin regarding bowling in right areas and putting the pressure on the batsmen," Kuldeep Yadav said to host broadcaster Star Sports after the end of the second Test.
While Yadav didn't claim a wicket in the first innings but took a couple of wickets in the second as well.
"We weren't worried after losing the first Test, we have been in such situations before, in my first series in 2017, we had lost the first Test against Australia in Pune. We're relaxed, we knew we had the team to come back and perform. Everyone was just focused on doing well in this Test," he further added.
While England had a poor show in both innings, R Ashwin stole the limelight away from others, first with the ball and then with the bat. He picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings whereas smashed a stunning century in the second innings as well.
Apart from him, Rohit Sharma scored a hundred in the first innings while the debutant Axar Patel claimed a fifer that helped the Indian team win by a massive 317 runs that helped the host level the four-match Test series 1-1.
