Former Bangladesh opener Hannan Sarkar stepped down as a national team selector last February to focus on his coaching career. Since then, he has been working with Abahani Limited. Following his resignation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) national selection panel has effectively been functioning with just two members.

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain has been working alongside former left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak as the second member. For months, there has been speculation that a third selector would be added to the panel, with several former cricketers’ names in circulation.

Now, the name being strongly linked is former Bangladesh pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanto. A source confirmed to Cricfrenzy that Shanto has received a formal proposal to join as a national selector and has agreed to it.

The BCB’s Annual General Meeting is being held on Saturday (September 20), where a final decision on his appointment is expected.

Meanwhile, Salma Khatun has not been part of the Bangladesh national women’s team since December 2022. Despite regularly playing domestic cricket, the experienced all-rounder has not made a comeback to the national side over the past two and a half years.

Although she has yet to announce her retirement from international cricket, Salma has now been appointed as a selector of the Bangladesh women’s national team. She will officially take charge as a selector from October 1.
