Shakib last played in the PSL in 2023. His journey in the league began in 2016 with Karachi Kings, where he scored 126 runs with one half-century in 8 matches, though he managed just 3 wickets with the ball.
The following year, he played for Peshawar Zalmi, picking up 5 wickets and scoring 54 runs in 5 matches. He made a brief return in 2023 with Zalmi, featuring in one game but failed to make an impact with either bat or ball. Across three seasons and two teams, Shakib has played 14 PSL matches, scoring 181 runs and taking 8 wickets.
Expressing his excitement about joining the side, Shakib Al Hasan said: “I’m really happy to join Lahore Qalandars for the ongoing PSL season. We’re at a crucial stage of the competition where every game counts. It’s a tournament I’ve always enjoyed watching, and now I’m looking forward to contributing on the field. Qalandars have great fans and a strong team spirit, and I’m excited to be a part of the group as we push for a strong finish.”

The PSL was previously suspended due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. However, following diplomatic talks and a ceasefire, the league is set to resume on May 17.

Before returning home, Mitchell injured his finger in a match against Karachi Kings, ruling him out of the tournament. Lahore Qalandars have named Shakib as his replacement.
Lahore confirmed the signing on their official Facebook page and stated that Shakib has already applied for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
According to sources, the BCB has granted the NOC, clearing the way for Shakib to join the team in Rawalpindi shortly.
According to the revised PSL schedule, Lahore Qalandars will face Peshawar Zalmi on May 18 in a crucial clash. Before the tournament was halted, Lahore was in fourth place with 9 points from 9 matches, while Babar Azam-led Peshawar trailed closely with 8 points.
A win in this match is essential for Lahore to secure a playoff spot.
