Phil Simmons heads to UK for medical reasons

Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons will miss the second ODI against Sri Lanka as he has taken a short leave for personal reasons, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Friday.

Team manager Nafees Iqbal stated, “Phil Simmons is travelling to the UK for two days due to personal reasons. He has scheduled a consultation with his doctor there. He is leaving today (Friday) and will return on July 7.”

As a result, Simmons will be absent during the second ODI on July 5 but is expected to rejoin the team ahead of the third and final ODI on July 8.

The BCB clarified that Simmons was originally supposed to see his doctor back in February, during the Champions Trophy, but postponed the appointment due to tournament commitments.
