The Ministry of Youth and Sports released an official statement on Thursday.
"In light of the no-confidence letter sent by eight BCB directors against Faruque Ahmed, and the report presented by the fact-finding committee about the BPL, his nomination as the representative of the National Sports Council (sports ministry) has been cancelled," the ministry stated.
The decision came in response to a formal three-page letter submitted by eight BCB directors to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The directors accused Faruque of autocratic behavior, nepotism, corruption, abuse of power, and monopolizing authority, along with several other irregularities. In their letter, they urged the ministry to annul Faruque’s appointment as BCB president.
Taking these allegations into consideration, the NSC confirmed late on Wednesday (May 29) that Faruque’s nomination has been cancelled.
Faruque was one of two individuals nominated by the ministry to serve on the BCB board. He was appointed as a director on August 21 last year and was elected president on the same day. His term in office lasted nine months and eight days.
