Sylhet Strikers captain Mashrafe Mortaza believes Najmul Hossain Shanto shares the same prospect as wicket-keeper batter Liton Das.
Shanto had been out of form for a long time, which led to his exclusion from the national team's T20I squad. But he was recalled into the T20 World Cup squad and sparked in the competition being the highest-run scorer for Bangladesh.
He scored 180 runs for Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup, which was held in Australia. Overall in BPL, Sylhet Strikers won the first six of seven matches where Shanto scored 43*, 48, 19, 57, 12, 13 and 89 runs respectively.
According to Mashrafe, Shanto is as mentally strong as Litton and views his turnabout as having huge potential for the Bangladesh Cricket team.
“Shanto used to get trolled like Litton. But Shanto has scored almost two hundred runs in the World Cup against all the odds. I said it before. Later he struggled again, now he got back into form again. Shanto has been through a lot of ups and down,” said Mashrafe.
“There may be time in international cricket to overcome challenges. It is important to stay mentally strong. I've found similarities of him with Liton. In that case, I believe this boy is gonna go far like Litton. At the end of the day everything happens by the will of Allah and I believe this boy can give a lot to the Bangladesh cricket team,” he added.
