Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon said that a decision on head coach Russell Domingo will be made in January 2022. The board president explained why he decided to extend his contract with the much-debated coach.
Papon revealed Domingo had been approached by another team to the coach before the World Cup. At that time Domingo stated that if his contract was not renewed by the board, he would sign a contract with that team.
"Just before the beginning of the World Cup, Domingo informed us that he had gotten a really attractive offer. He was wondering if we would renew his contract. He stated that if the contract is renewed, he will continue. If we do not renew the contract, he will not take any risks and will accept that offer," Papon told the media on Saturday.
“Later, I decided that we would not get a coach during this time period. Even if I had, I was hesitant to appoint a new coach before the World Cup. In the end, the board decided to extend his contract. We have already renewed it,” he said.
BCB president also said that after the conclusion of the New Zealand tour a decision on Domingo's World Cup performance will be made.
“We have the same thought about him what it used to be. We are still waiting for the report. There is nothing to be impatient about. We will decide in January. You have to be patient this month. I will be able to give all the information after this month,” he added.
