Ramiz Raja, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has declared that Pakistan will host the Asia Cup in 2023. The tournament will be played in ODI format and would be held in Pakistan, according to reports. Pakistan last held the Asia Cup in 2008 and has yet to host another major ICC tournament since then.

After a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009, teams from all over the world ceased traveling to Pakistan. When Zimbabwe toured Pakistan in 2015, international cricket returned to the country for the first time since 2009.

Since then, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has worked hard to bring international cricket to the country on a regular basis, but has been unsuccessful.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has allegedly decided to give Pakistan the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023, which is a significant boost for the PCB. According to Cricbuzz, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja has announced that the competition will be held in Pakistan.

The decision was made during the ACC meeting in Dubai on Thursday (October 15), at which PCB chairman Raja was present. The Asia Cup will be contested in ODI format in 2023, while it will be a T20 event in 2022, which will be hosted by Sri Lanka next year.

The Asia Cup will be held for the 16th time in 2023. The 15th edition was supposed to be played last year, but because to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed.

The PCB had the hosting rights for the 15th edition, but the BCCI expressed misgivings over sending the Indian team to Pakistan and requested that the competition be moved to the UAE.
