India fast bowler Navdeep Saini had sustained a shoulder injury during the second T20 against Sri Lanka and now he is doubtful for the third and final T20I against the host on Thursday [July 29].
The incident took place during Sri Lanka’s chase. Saini was fielding at extra cover when he tried to catch a ball hit by Chamika Karunaratne. Although Saini leapt into the air, he couldn’t reach the ball. Later, he landed on his shoulder and ended up being injured. Saini did not bowl a single over in the game, was taken off the field.
India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has said that the BCCI medical team is assessing pacer Navdeep Saini.
"In Navdeep's case, I think the medical team is handling him. We will assess the situation, maybe tonight or in the morning and take a decision accordingly," Mhambrey said in the post-match press conference.
"And I think, once the decision is finalised and conveyed to the selectors and the coach, I think we will go ahead and then if needed we need to make any changes, we will do that," he added.
Earlier Krunal Pandya was tested positive for Covid-19 and eight other cricketers who were in contact with the cricketer were ruled out.
